The first ever Format Festival, located in Bentonville, Arkansas, was an eclectic mix of art and music. I was lucky enough to photograph the first and second day of the three day long festival. I spent the whole first day of the festival walking around exploring all the the different attractions. The first thing I noticed when I arrived were the giant fuzzy neon towers created by Nick Cave. I made it to every set at the North and South of OZ stages. My favorites included Moses Sumney, Beach House, the Marias, and Phoenix. In between the sets at the main stages, I discovered unique venues such as; "the Cube," with 360 degree balcony viewing around the stage, "Drag me to the Disco" a stage inside of a big red barn, "Smokey's," with late night sets in the forest, and "Next Door" a speakeasy venue with a hidden porta potty entrance into a large dome.
Notable highlights of the festival in my opinion included the confetti canons during The Flaming Lips, a drone light show during Phoenix, a giant silver hot air balloon, and a misty eclipse like entrance to the Smokey's stage.
