Elliott Fullam Releases New Single "A Hopeful Ending"

Interview By: Emma Hintz

You have been a fan of alternative music your whole life, how has this impacted the way you go about recording your own music? Do you have any major inspirations you can cite?

I’m actually very minimal when it comes to recording music!! I use a Focusrite Scarlett interface, a Mac laptop and Logic Pro. My main inspiration when it comes to recording is actually Billie Eilish and Finneas!! I love the fact that I can record at any time of night and day with no time limit and that’s because of my little at-home recording situation!! Some of my main influences when it comes to music in general are Elliott Smith, Duster, Mazzy Star, Alex G, Mitski, Radiohead, Crumb and Broadcast.

You just released a new single "A Hopeful Ending", can you tell us a little bit about the songwriting process?

I have many different ways of writing a song. Sometimes it starts with a vocal melody or it can even start with a drum machine track, a guitar interlude, etc. But “A Hopeful Ending” started with guitar. I mess around on guitar all day so a lot of songs just come naturally and almost write themselves. I wrote the basic structure and singing melodies within an hour (along with the lyrics for just the chorus). And while recording, I came up with the verse lyrics on the spot. I loved writing “A Hopeful Ending”!

You just recently played your first official show in New York City at Mercury Lounge, how did It go? Any plans to tour in the near future?

That show was one of the best experiences of my life!! It was a ton of fun and the crowd seemed really into it!! I definitely want to go on tour in the future. I don’t know exactly when that’ll be but I REALLY want to go on tour. I loved meeting the fans and talking to them about music and I’m excited for fun little interactions like that!! We are starting to work on booking some small shows now.

If you were to describe your sound in three words, what three words would you use?

melancholy, nature, therapeutic

Any last words for the audience at home?

I just want to say THANK YOU for everything. To anyone who has listened to my music, you are making my dream come true. To anyone who is trying to make music, if I could do it, YOU absolutely could do it and I wish you great luck!! And that goes for all things creative whether you want to do painting, photography, acting, ANYTHING…. I wish you great luck and enjoy the process!!

Keep up with Elliott Fullam here.
