Artist Feature: Kailee Morgue

Photos + Words By: Hillary Safadi

My name is Kailee Morgue, I’m opening up for Maggie Lindemann on the Sucker punch tour, we are in DC right now and I just performed so I’m all hot and sweaty, but it was very fun.

Hillary: We at Small Talks interviewed you at peak lockdown in April of 2020, what have you been up to since then? How’s life been?

Kailee: Honestly my life has kind of changed over the past year in such a crazy way that I was not expecting, I put out an album, I’m on this amazing tour, I have a song in one of my favorite movies of all time, I would just like to think that all of the hard work has really started to pay off this year, I really think it’s what everything was leading up to.

Hillary: Speaking of having a song in your favorite movie (Scream 6, 2023) tell me a little more about working with Mike Shinoda and the process of how the song came to be.

Kailee: Yeah it was super fun, Mike and I had met briefly before but I think the whole experience was so surreal because I mean, everyone has encountered Linkin Park at one time or another and it was a band that I grew up listening to so it was so inspiring to go to his house and see everything he’s made from the accomplishments of this band. The fact that he wanted me on a song was absolutely insane and on top of that it being my favorite franchise of all time, it was a lot to take in and I still don’t think it’s really sunk in that i’ve done that. Everyday I’m kind of reminded that it’s a thing like, I’ll go to the movie theater and it’s like, oh yeah my song is in one of my favorite movies.

Hillary: What has been your favorite stop on this tour so far?

Kailee: There’s so many different things that are highlights on this tour so far, Portland was so fun, I got a tattoo, the crowd was insane, the venue also had this really cool haunted looking room, and on top of that we just went to a bar and it was a lot of fun. New York was also great, I don’t think there’s another city that feels like that, it was a lot of fun. Every few shows we are kind of encountering things that top the last show, it just keeps getting better.

Hillary: What is next for Kailee Morgue or what do you HOPE is next for you?

Kailee: I’m working on a lot of new music I mean, I think that’s a given. I am constantly constantly working on new music, I put out my debut album 5 months ago so it’s kind of figuring out where I want to go after that sonically, I think also doing this tour I did not realize how many people wanna see me live, obviously this is a sold out tour and we have a lot of the same fans so it’s kind of worked itself out, I just didn’t realize there was a demand for it. I would love to do my own tour so that might possibly be in the works, we’ll see. So yeah just a lot of new music, i’m kind of dabbling in doing other artistic things like acting and just kind of feeling out all the mediums so I guess I don’t really have a straight answer just a million things at once.

Hillary: What would you tell yourself a year ago today?

Kailee: Just wait, just hold on a sec and wait, I cannot tell you how close I was to not doing music anymore, I’ve been doing this for five years so every so often there’s kind of a moment of like, wow I can’t do this anymore and it’s really hard on my mental health, I’m very introverted, but this is kind of one of the first times in my career where I’m really seeing the rewards of the work I’ve put in so if I could tell myself something it would be to just wait it out, let everything happen, and it will work itself out like it should. I’ve really been riding this high this year.

keep up with Kailee Morgue here.
