We sat down with 18-year old rising pop artist Isabel LaRosa to talk touring, music, fans, and more. Listen to her newest EP release, YOU FEAR THE GOD THAT LOVES YOU, here.
Describe your sound and style.
My sound and style fit into a darker pop world. I think the phrase “suburban angst” feels fitting to describe the sonic and visual feel.
You most recently released your hit single i’m yours, can you tell us a little bit about it?
“i’m yours” describes the in-between stage of friendship and something more than that, and the emotions that come with it. Seeing everything happening with the song was and is so surreal, I still can’t fully put it into words.
What has been your favorite fan interaction?
My favorite fan interaction has been meeting someone who had supported me since before I had released any music, and had become my friend over time. It was such a special moment for both of us and I’ll truly never forget it.
Who would you say is your biggest musical influence or inspiration?
I would say my biggest inspiration when it comes to artistry is Melanie Martinez. Her dedication to detail and her level of intention in her work is something I’ve always looked up to.
You just wrapped your first tour with Nessa Barrett, how was the tour?
It was so incredible! If you told me a few years ago that’s what I’d be doing now I seriously wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t believe I get to do this, it’s been the most insane thing I’ve ever experienced.
How has your style changed from back in 2021? Releasing your first single, 16 Candles.
I think I’ve found what feels truly right for me after experimenting with different sounds and visuals, but once we landed on “HAUNTED,” I knew that was it. I always knew I leaned towards darker music and visuals, so it felt like the perfect step into that world.
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
I would say either Melanie Martinez or Lana Del Rey would be an absolute dream to work with. They’ve been such huge inspirations to me, I would have a heart attack if that ever happened.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I want to be in the music industry for a very long time but I also want to venture more into the film world. I would love to have worked on writing and/or directing a TV show in the next five years.
